When does tubing season start near Austin? Short answer: March. Long answer: it depends on what you mean by "season" — because the spring-fed San Marcos River doesn't actually change temperature.
March – Spring break warm-up
Air can swing from 60° to 85°. Bring layers. Quieter crowds, great rates. See our spring break post.
April – May – The sweet spot
Warm air, fewer crowds than summer, river at peak clarity, and weekday cabin specials are still running. If you only go once a year, go now.

June – August – Peak season
Hot, busy, prime tubing weather. Book early — Saturdays sell out by Wednesday. The 72° water has never felt better than at 4pm in July.
September – October – Bonus season
Underrated. Warm air, smaller crowds, post-Labor-Day discounts. Bring a sweatshirt for evenings around the fire.

November – February – Off-season
River's still 72° but the air isn't. Better for kayaking with a wetsuit or a fire-and-cabin weekend than full-day tubing.
The smart move
Book a weekday in May or September — same river, smaller crowds, lower rates. See current specials.
